Stepping Stone Collection

The images below show the empty and filled forms before they are removed for carving. Each step is three inches thick and most are 100lbs, give or take. I have found big heavy steps sit well once placed and do not shift as much as smaller, lighter steps. To make the pieces fit together it is necessary to have one step completed and pour the mate up against it to get a proper fit. Prior to the carve the step is pulled away in order to finish the piece.

There were twenty-two steps made before the weather, and my garden, shut down production until next year. Here are the first set of steps laid in their eventual location. Some of these will probably be rearranged as more are made. The rest of the project may include some larger elements, steps at door entries, that will be poured and carved in place.
Although I added some integral color in the mix to knock down the lightness of the grey cement it was decided to brush on an acid stain to further darken the cast.
The final presentation will have a low ground cover surrounding the work.
